West Virginia quarterback Will Grier ruled eligible to start in season opener against Virginia Tech

The West Virginia Mountaineers have announced that quarterback Will Grier will be eligible to start in the season opener against the Virginia Tech Hokies on September 3rd.

Grier failed a routine drug test during his Freshman year at Florida after taking an over-the-counter supplement that contained a banned substance, and was suspended for a full season by the NCAA. Grier transferred to West Virginia before the 2016 season while serving his suspension, and it was unclear up until now if his punishment could run concurrent with NCAA transfer rules.

The West Virginia coaching staff had remained confident that Grier would be ruled eligible, and proceeded through Spring drills as though it were the case.
