MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Quarterback Jarret Doege was named the Big 12’s newcomer of the week after leading West Virginia to a win in his first career start as a Mountaineer.
Doege completed 20 of 30 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns in West Virginia’s 24-20 upset over No. 24 Kansas State. All three touchdowns came on third downs against the Big 12’s top third-down defense.
“Jarret handled himself well. He didn’t do anything that got us beat,” WVU coach Neal Brown said on Monday’s Big 12 coaches teleconference. “That sounds kind of underwhelming, I know.
