MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Point guard Jordan McCabe, the kid with the flashy handle who doesn’t necessarily love the flashy nickname, became West Virginia’s first commitment for 2018 on Tuesday.
The 5-foot-11 ballhandling whiz from Kaukauna, Wisc., chose the Mountaineers over offers from Minnesota, Missouri, DePaul, as well as two homestate mid-majors—Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Other Power Five programs such as Purdue, Marquette, Iowa and Iowa State have expressed interest in McCabe, who led his team to a state championship last March as a sophomore.
ESPN rates McCabe a four star prospect while Rivals, 247Sports and Scout give him three stars.
