The Mountaineers (6-5) found themselves in a hole early after dropping back-to-back matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to surrender the doubles point to the Thundering Herd (5-8). On court one, senior Hailey Barrett and sophomore Habiba Shaker stumbled against Marshall’s Derya Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya by a score of 6-1. On court two, sophomore Carolina Lewis and freshman Paula Goetz fell to Marshall’s Maddie Silver and Rachael Morales by a score of 6-1.
“The doubles point was huge, and it cost us the match overall,” said third-year coach Miha Lisac.
