West Virginia duo still kicking themselves for 2015 K-State loss

COMMENTARY

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Linebacker Al-Rasheed Benton hasn’t forgiven himself for last December’s 24-23 loss at Kansas State.

Sure, there were 10 other West Virginia players who failed to impede Morgan Burns on the decisive 97-yard kick return, yet Benton faults himself primarily, and with harsh frequency.

“I can’t stop thinking about that game, can’t stop thinking about that one play,” he told me Tuesday.

Benton, lined up on the right hash, should have intersected with Burns as the returner crossed the field. Only Benton never factored in the play. Instead he was knocked off his feet and neutralized as the ball zipped past him.
