West Virginia drops opener 1-0 to No. 5 Texas Tech

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia stymied No. 5 Texas Tech’s dangerous lineup but couldn’t generate any offense of its own, falling 1-0 in the opener of a Big 12 doubleheader Saturday.

No. 9 hitter Cody Farhat tripled in the fifth and scored on Grant Little’s one-out double for the Red Raiders (38-12, 12-7), who moved two games ahead of WVU entering the nightcap.

The Mountaineers fell to 26-18 overall and 10-9 in the league, despite stellar pitching from Kade Strowd (1-2), Sam Kessler and Cody Wood.

But Texas Tech’s left-handed duo of Erik Lanning (3-1) and Jacob Patterson were even better, combining on a two-hitter.
