MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Ferns Brothers seem to be enjoying fine camps.
While blue-chip freshman Brendan Ferns laid quick claim to the backup spot at Mike linebacker, older brother Michael seized an opportunity at fullback following Eli Wellman’s ankle injury.
“Eli better hurry up and get back to practice,” cracked West Virginia assistant Ja’Juan Seider. “Ferns is doing a great job with Eli nicked up. He’s starting to understand where he fits.”
Michael Ferns, himself a highly touted linebacker recruit at Michigan, transferred to WVU last year and shifted to offense, where he was predisposed to over-running blocks.
