West Virginia bench delivers in double-OT marathon at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Tarik Phillip sank the go-ahead jumper and Jonathan Holton blocked the potential tying shot with 7 seconds left in double-overtime as No. 19 West Virginia survived Kansas State 87-83 in Saturday’s tense Big 12 opener.

In a game that featured 29 lead changes and 19 ties, West Virginia (12-1, 1-0) overcame subpar outputs from leading scorers Devin Williams and Jevon Carter. But sixth man Jaysean Paige played huge with 25 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench, including nine points late in regulation when the Mountaineers climbed out of a 59-53 deficit.
