MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia entered November a weathered team, one that endured four-consecutive losses and was preparing to play two games against evenly-matched opponents that would either save its season or further unravel it.
Two weeks later, it’s clear what direction the Mountaineers went.
Seven days after gashing Texas Tech on the same field, junior Wendell Smallwood rushed for a career-high 165 yards, helping pace a strong West Virginia ground game in a 38-20 victory Saturday against Texas at Milan Puskar Stadium.
Though they were outgained by 59 yards, the Mountaineers (5-4, 2-4 Big 12) forced five turnovers off a Longhorns (4-6, 3-4) team that entered the day with only seven giveaways through its first nine games.
