MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Megan Reid’s golden goal off a deflection less than 5 minutes before the end of double-overtime gave No. 10 Virginia a 2-1 upset of top-ranked West Virginia in women’s soccer on Thursday night.

The Cavaliers (2-0) spoiled WVU’s season opener before 2,421 fans, the third-largest crowd in Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium history.

Moments after Mountaineers midfielder Alli Magaletta was helped off the field with an apparent leg injury, Virginia’s Montana Sutton directed a free kick into the box, where Reid turned amid WVU defenders and pushed the game-winner toward the far left post in the 106th minute.
