PRINCETON, N.J. — While her tight defensive play helped No. 6 West Virginia pitch a shutout, Vanessa Flores will be remembered for a rare offensive strike in Friday’s win over No. 20 Princeton.
The junior’s first career goal, set up by a corner kick in the 19th minute, held up for a 1-0 decision.
The Mountaineers (6-2), who own the nation’s top RPI and improved to 3-2 against ranked teams, ruined Princeton’s 6-0 start for a second straight season.
“This game took 90 minutes of intensity. It was a battle out there,” West Virginia coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said.
