The NCAA recognized 12 local college teams Wednesday for having an exceptional Academic Progress Rate, which measures a sports ability to retain and graduate athletes. The NCAA bestowed “Public Recognition Awards” on teams who finished in the top 10 percent of APR scores in each individual sport.
Pitt had two teams recognized — men’s basketball and women’s tennis; Penn State had seven teams recognized — men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, women’s golf, women’s hockey, men’s tennis and wrestling; West Virginia had two teams recognized — rowing and gymnastics; and Robert Morris had its men’s hockey team recognized.
