MORGANTOWN.W.Va. — The Lunch heard these precise words about Oklahoma State freshman Jawun Evans last Saturday:
“They’ve got a good freshman point guard but it’s a big transition from high school …”
That was Mountaineers senior Jonathan Holton assessing Evans after the rookie mixed 13 points with five turnovers in a 77-60 loss at West Virginia. On Wednesday night, Evans committed five turnovers again, only he mixed those with 42 points in a near-miss upset of No. 2 Oklahoma.
West Virginia, currently atop the Big 12 standings, visits the Sooners on Saturday, and Oklahoma’s defense is a conundrum—first in the Big 12 in field-goal defense, but next-to-last in points allowed.
