Tennessee Tech blanks West Virginia in opener of midweek series

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Alex Hursey limited West Virginia to two hits over eight innings in Tennessee Tech’s 8-0 win Tuesday night.

Shut out for the first time this season, the Mountaineers (7-7) didn’t have a runner reach third base until reliever colton Provey allowed Darius Hill’s double in the ninth. The Golden Eagles (10-5) had nine hits including John Ham’s three-run double.

WVU sophomore Isaiah Kearns (0-1) made his second start, allowing two runs on four hits with a strikeout and two walks in four innings. He surrendered a solo homer to Chase Chambers in the fourth.
