Reserve puts cheerful wrap on West Virginia’s 15-5 win vs. Gardner-Webb

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Kyle Davis drove in five runs to match a personal-best and seldom-used reserve Andrew Zitel hit his first career homer for a feel-good ending to West Virginia’s 15-5 romp over Gardner-Webb on Saturday.

The Mountaineers (29-20) collected 15 hits during the opener of a rain-shortened two-game series led by the left fielder Davis, whose 3-for-3 day included a two-run triple and raised his season average to .339.

Ivan Gonzalez, playing third base after Cole Austin became a late scratch with an eye injury, and right fielder Darius Hill had three hits each.
