PITTSBURGH — Playing their fifth game in 14 days, West Virginia was listless, mistake-prone and no match for Pitt during a 7-0 loss Tuesday night in men’s soccer.
The defeat snapped a three-match win streak for the Mountaineers (6-2-2), who renewed the Backyard Brawl rivalry for the first time since 2011.
The Panthers (3-5-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead at halftime and cruised to their highest-scoring match since 1998.
“I didn’t have my team ready to play today,” West Virginia coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “I take 100 percent responsibility for our performance. It looked like we were a team playing its fifth game in 14 days.
