Physical Kyzir White stakes claim at Spur safety

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — From the moment KJ Dillon played his final snap for West Virginia in last January’s Cactus Bowl, the Spur position seemed Kyzir White’s to lose.

And White didn’t arrive on campus until May.

The Lackawanna (Pa.) College product—who was also pursued by USC, Penn State and Pitt—met soaring expectations throughout preseason camp and stands poised to start against Missouri on Sept. 3. After only a few practices, defensive coordinator Tony Gibson proclaimed White was “getting it” and becoming an enforcer in the box.

At 6-foot-3 and nearly 230 pounds, White is three inches taller and 20 pounds thicker than his predecessor Dillon, not to mention heavier than most of the linebackers on the current WVU roster.
