Notes: Iowa transfer Maurice Fleming ‘standing out’ at CB

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Asked for a scouting report on Iowa graduate transfer Maurice Fleming, his roommate and fellow cornerback Rasul Douglas gave up something that won’t be of much use to West Virginia’s opponents.

“He’s a funny, weird guy.”

There’s nothing weird, however, about the last-chance realization that led Fleming to leave the Big Ten school.

“At Iowa he played nickel and he wanted to play outside,” Douglas said. “He wanted to play more than seven or eight plays a game.”

In three seasons with the Hawkeyes, the 5-foot-11 Chicago native appeared in 33 games but started only twice and never recorded an interception.
