Notebook: Holgorsen laments ‘they were better than us today’

STILLWATER, Okla. — The frustrating aftertaste of West Virginia’s first loss in 329 days left coach Dana Holgorsen crediting Oklahoma State’s players and adding “maybe we’re not as good as we thought we were.”

That was only some of the fallout from the nation’s 10th-ranked team losing 37-20 on a day in which it was favored.

The Mountaineers (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) lost momentum during a midgame malaise, their defense yielded a season-high in points, and Skyler Howard threw for a season-low 212 yards while committing three turnovers.

Holgorsen knew the game pivoted on two of those giveaways that led to OSU touchdown drives of 13 and 9 yards.
