LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked West Virginia women yielded only two shots on goal and controlled possession for much of the match during a 1-0 victory at Kansas on Friday night.

In winning their fourth straight, the Mountaineers (11-1-1, 3-0) seized on a first-half corner kick by Ashley Lawrence, who found Alli Magaletta for the decisive header.

Kansas (8-4-2, 3-1) fell to 0-6 all-time against West Virginia, remaining scoreless in the series.

“West Virginia is a quality team and they definitely have a shot to go all the way, but I thought our kids competed really, really well,” said Kansas coach Mark Francis.
