The Mountaineers scored a goal each half and held the host team to just three second-half shots on-goal. Sophomore Michelle Newhouse played all 90 minutes and earned the shutout.
“Tonight’s match was a successful game for the team, especially coming off a long stretch of travel,” assistant coach Marisa Kanela said. “We beat a good team tonight and capitalized on two good chances. We’re continuing to build.”
Freshman midfielder Laurel Carpenter tallied the game-winning score in the 40th minute, connecting on a cross from classmate Nia Gordon and burying her clean look from the penalty line past the far left post.
