Mountaineers survive Gardner-Webb 4-3 on Senior Day

West Virginia needed a couple of insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to get past Gardner-Webb 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

The Mountaineers (30-20) scored their four hits off of seven hits and two Bulldog errors.

Alek Manoah clinched his first win of the season, pitching 5 23 innings allowing only one run and six hits, while striking out seven batters.

The win over Gardner-Webb (22-27) clinches West Virginia’s second consecutive 30-win season, something that has not been accomplished since 2008-09 under Greg Van Zant.

The Mountaineers finish their home schedule on Tuesday as they look to sweep this year’s Backyard Brawl against Pitt.
