Mountaineers Open 2017 Preseason

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 2016 national runner-up West Virginia University women’s soccer team officially opened its 2017 preseason with a training session Wednesday morning at Dreamswork Field.

Fifteen letterwinners, including nine starters, return from a 2016 squad that held the program’s first No. 1 ranking for eight weeks, earned a program- and nation-best 23 wins and 18 shutouts, swept the Big 12 Conference titles for the third time in four seasons and advanced to the NCAA College Cup Final.

“There’s always excitement around this time of the year. Every team is different, and we’re excited to get this group together,” 22-year coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said.
