Mountaineers Lead 22-18 at Halftime

PHOENIX - What we saw in the first half was basically a microcosm of the way these two teams have played all season – inconsistently.

West Virginia got touchdown passes of 59 and 10 yards from quarterback Skyler Howard and three field goals from place kicker Josh Lambert to take a 22-18 lead over Arizona State into the locker room at halftime.

But the Mountaineers’ halftime lead could have been double digits if not for some poor special teams play.

Following Daikiel Shorts’ 10-yard touchdown reception in the corner of the end zone with 28 seconds left in the first half to make the score 22-13, WVU, Lambert’s point after try was blocked and returned 98 yards by Tim White to give the Sun Devils two points.
