MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The AP preseason poll features West Virginia at No. 22, which stands in close proximity to their season-opening opponent.

Virginia Tech debuted one spot higher at No. 21 in Monday’s poll. The Hokies are 5-point favorites for the Sept. 3 showdown at Landover, Md.

The Mountaineers are among five Big 12 teams in the poll, following No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 10 Oklahoma State and No. 20 Kansas State. At No. 23 sits Texas, beneficiaries of a huge Tom Herman bump and the only team in the preseason poll coming off a losing record last season.
