West Virginia may have lost, 70-68, at the buzzer against No. 2 Oklahoma last Saturday afternoon in Norman, but the Mountaineers gained a great deal respect in the world of perception.
On Tuesday, WVU beat top-ranked Kansas, 74-63, in Morgantown for its first win over No. 1 in 33 years, and the Mountaineers nearly pulled off a rarity by beating No. 1 and No. 2 in successive games.
Those two performances - coupled with weekend losses by Miami, Duke and Michigan State – have West Virginia up five spots to No. 6 in this week’s AP poll.
