Marcell Lazard leaves team, hurting depth at offensive tackle

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia fifth-year senior Marcell Lazard, who started 12 games over the past two seasons at right tackle, has left the team, sources confirmed to MetroNews.

Lazard has been absent from both media viewing sessions this spring.

The 6-foot-6, 311-pounder from Bloomfield, N.J., played 420 offensive snaps as a junior after appearing on 493 as a sophomore. During each of those seasons he delivered inconsistent performances when pressed into action by shuffling related to Yodny Cajuste’s injuries.

With 27 career appearances, Lazard was expected to compete with redshirt sophomore Colton McKivitz at right tackle next season, though he was cross-trained to play the left side also.
