West Virginia sophomore safety Kerry Martin Jr. announced this morning that he’ll be opting out of the 2020 season, citing health concerns related to COVID-19 and existing underlying health issues. Martin’s scholarship will be honored for the season, and he currently intends to return to the team in 2021 as a redshirt sophomore.

With his announcement, Martin joins the growing list of Power 5 conference athletes that have decided to opt out for the season, highlighted by Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons. As we get closer to the intended start date for the season, that list is expected to continue growing.
