Joe Fryz, former WVU basketball player, dies

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former Mountaineer basketball player Joe Fryz has died following a battle with ALS. He was 58.

Fryz was an outstanding basketball player at Moon High School in Pittsburgh from 1973-76.

He averaged 27 points per game as a senior and was named all-state in Pennsylvania.

Fryz was recruited by a number of major colleges before choosing WVU.

He was teammates with current WVU coach Bob Huggins and the two became lifelong friends.
