Injured WVU receiver Sam James expected to play against Iowa State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia will not have to face Iowa State without its most potent offensive target.

Barring a setback, redshirt freshman wide receiver Sam James will be back on the field when the Mountaineers host the Cyclones on Saturday. James missed the fourth quarter of WVU’s 42-31 loss to Texas after hitting the turf hard near his neck and head.

“Unless something changes in the next couple days, Sam will play,” said West Virginia coach Neal Brown.

James leads the Mountaineers with 32 catches for 329 yards and two touchdowns.

“I’m excited about Sam this Saturday and for the next few years,” Brown said on his Thursday night radio show.
