UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Bria Holmes scored 18 points in a home-state return, Teana Muldrow added 16 and West Virginia staved off Yale’s late charge for a 70-60 victory in the final game of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge on Sunday.
West Virginia (4-2) gave coach Mike Carey his 301st victory, tying Kittie Blakemore as the program’s all-time wins leader.
Once down 15 in the second half, Yale (4-3) got 12 fourth-quarter points from guard Whitney Wyckoff and drew within 63-60 at the 1:04 mark. But then Holmes found Lanay Montgomery for a layup to begin WVU’s 7-0 closing run.
