MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — As with Houston upsetting Oklahoma two weeks ago and Memphis blasting Kansas the past two seasons, some Big 12 expansion candidates have played inspired football against the conference they aspire to join.
BYU, which recently swept a home-and-home from Texas by a combined scored of 81-28, gets another crack at the league this Saturday against West Virginia at FedEx Field.
“No secret that they’re trying to get into the Big 12, which is probably going to give them a little extra motivation,” said Mountaineers coach Dana Holgorsen on Tuesday.
Though he’s on record as favoring expansion, Holgorsen hasn’t publicly endorsed specific schools and doubts head coaches have much influence, even though football revenue essentially drives the discussion.
