Grizzlies sign Jevon Carter to multi-year contract

On the heel of several solid appearances in the NBA summer league, Jevon Carter officially signed a multi-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.

Terms of the deal were not immediately available, but the former West Virginia star is expected to make well beyond next season’s rookie minimum of $582,000.

Through five games in the NBA summer league, Carter is averaging 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 23 minutes of action.

Memphis selected Carter in the second round with the 32nd overall pick of last month’s draft.

His competition to be the Grizzlies’ backup point guard likely will come from Kobi Simmons, an undrafted one-and-done player out of Arizona who who played 32 games in Memphis last season while splitting time with the G-League
