Cooked and Burned: WVU falls to shorthanded K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Regardless who’s playing quarterback at Kansas State, it seems West Virginia can’t seem to beat him.

Receiver Cody Cook stepped under center to spark two second-half scoring drives before Morgan Burns’ 97-yard kick return lifted Kansas State to a 24-23 comeback win that was the program’s fourth straight over West Virginia.

Wendell Smallwood ran for 141 yards for West Virginia (7-5, 4-5), which led 13-3 at half and seemed on its way to winning eight regular-season games for the first time in the Big 12.

Yet K-State (6-6, 3-6) made its own Senior Day memories, rallying behind Cook, one of the afternoon’s 20 honors.
