College basketball rule change could mean flagrant foul for hooking

KANSAS CITY — The biggest rule change this year, according to Big 12 Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Officials Curtis Shaw, will revolve around players hooking arms with other players while fighting for rebound positioning.

Shaw said if a player gets beat on positioning and then hooks arms in an attempt to keep the other player from securing the rebound, that is now considered a Flagrant 1 foul.

If the player who is beaten hooks arms and then is deemed to have tried to pull the other player down or pull him to the floor, that will now be called a Flagrant 2 foul and the player will be ejected from the game.
