MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Bowling Green’s Pat Flynn scored in the 53rd minute and the Falcons upset No. 22 West Virginia 1-0 in their rainy Mid-American Conference men’s soccer opener.
The Mountaineers (6-3-1, 0-1) recorded 12 shots, three on goal, but were shut out for just the second time this season as Bowling Green goalkeeper Anthony Mwembia proved unflinching.
The Falcons (8-3-1) had eight shots, six on goal.
The one that beat Mountaineers keeper Jose Santos came at 52:13. On a short pass into the box from the far side, Flynn rolled the ball into the right side of the net.
