Adam Bittner: Pitt, WVU secure decade of excitement with Backyard Brawl renewal

While there remain a lot of things Pitt fans can bemoan about their football program, the non-conference schedule for the next decade is certainly not among them.

With news Thursday that the Panthers will renew their rivalry with West Virginia beginning in 2022, Pitt has at least one opponent among WVU, Penn State and Notre Dame on every intersectional slate through 2025, the lone exception being 2021, when a trip to Tennessee will present an adequate consolation prize.

They’ll even get rivalry double dips a few times; in 2018 they’ll face the Nittany Lions and Fighting Irish in the same year, while ’23 and ’25 will bring contests against the Domers paired with the Backyard Brawl.
