3rd time no charm for Mountaineers: Longhorns roll big in semifinals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – For Bria Holmes and No. 22 West Virginia, struggling against Texas is nothing new.

For the third time this season, the No. 6 Longhorns took Holmes out of her game and beat the Mountaineers 67-51 Sunday in the Big 12 women’s semifinals at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

Third-seeded West Virginia (24-9) got only eight points from its all-conference top scorer, who shot 3-of-12 and finished three losses to Texas (28-3) shooting 9-of-33.

“They’re terrific defensively, and it’s just one of those things where a couple of their really go to players have sort of struggled against us the last couple of times we played them,” said Texas coach Karen Aston.
