10 WVU student-athletes test positive for COVID-19, men’s hoop workouts halted

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The WVU men’s basketball team will not begin offseason workouts as scheduled Monday after five student-athletes and one staff member tested positive for COVID-19. Following the two-week delay, players that test negative will be allowed to begin drills on Monday, July 20.

Additionally, four more football players and one women’s soccer player have tested positive for coronavirus. Contact tracing and self-isolation have already begun for those individuals.

“The recent positive numbers tell me the safest thing to do is put a pause on the start of our men’s basketball workouts,” said Director of Athletics Shane Lyons.
