5 Reasons You Know You Are A West Virginia Football Fan

By Alex Dudich, Chat Sports Campus Ambassador at West Virginia University

1. You Can’t Sing ‘Sweet Caroline’ Without Yelling “Eat Sh*t Pitt”

It’s tradition that every time that song is played, no matter where you are, every true West Virginia fan will scream at the top of their lungs, “Eat Sh*t Pitt.” Students are already counting the days until WVU and Pitt are back at it again in 2022!

2. Waking Up At 8 To Tailgate Is Normal

The dreaded noon games mean that tailgates start early. Alarms are set and coolers are packed, ready for fans to crowd outside of Milan-Puskar Stadium, waiting to see the Mountaineers play. It’s no wonder that on game days, Morgantown is the biggest city in West Virginia.

3. Knowing Every Word To ‘Country Roads’

At the end of every home game win, John Denver’s classic Country Roads can be heard all throughout Morgantown. There is no better feeling than standing around with thousands of people singing a song that hits home. If you don’t get chills when the song comes on, you aren’t a true fan!

4. Couches Are For Burning Not Sitting

Okay, so maybe that’s not the case anymore because West Virginia had to pass a law to ban couch burning, but everyone knows to hide their couches after a Mountaineer win!

5. You Hate Rich Rodriquez, Almost As Much As You Hate Pitt (Which Is A Lot)

After a tough loss to Pitt in 2007, WVU Alum and head coach, Rich Rodriquez up and left to coach Michigan. And ever since, you’ve despised him and the Wolverines.
