Sheffield United 1-0 West Ham: Heartache for David Moyes as Hammers are dramatically denied a point after VAR rules out last-gasp Robert Snodgrass goal

A dramatic late VAR reprieve and a goalkeeping blunder thrust Sheffield United back into the Premier League's European places last night.

West Ham thought they had preserved their unbeaten start under new manager David Moyes when Robert Snodgrass slotted in off the post in the last minute only for the 'equaliser' to be ruled out, following two minutes of manic celebrations at the away end, as referee Michael Oliver was told Declan Rice had handled John Egan's headed clearance at point-blank range prior to laying on the assist.

Over half an hour earlier, Oli McBurnie gratefully accepted the chance to expose the mistake with his fourth goal since a club record £20million move from Swansea in the summer.
