Former West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet defends decision not to take pay cut from £100,000 salary at Marseille amid the coronavirus pandemic, claiming he has 'significant financial outlays to maintain'

Dimitri Payet has claimed that taking into account the needs of his family was behind his decision not to take a paycut amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Marseille star earns £100,000 in a deal lasting to 2022, having taking a £20,000 drop in wages to leave West Ham for the south of France in 2017.

Marseille have had financial issues to contend with during the pandemic, having reduced the staff pay by 30 per cent during this period.
