Arsenal fans feared Kai Havertz was a £65m dud but his blend of fight and guile has won them over...and have made him Mikel Arteta's most important player

When the Arsenal team sheet arrived on Thursday night, one enforced absentee stood out.

Kai Havertz was missing through suspension. He had featured in all 26 of the Gunners’ competitive matches this season — the only player to do so.

By the final whistle of the 2-0 defeat against West Ham, the guile and physicality of a man who was once roundly criticised about those parts of his game was being longed for. How times have changed.

This week marks six months since Havertz’s £65million transfer from Chelsea.
