PFA calls for more research into how coronavirus affects BAME players in wake of Troy Deeney refusing to return to training due to unanswered questions on potential health risk

The Professional Footballers' Association wants the Premier League to undertake more research on the impact of COVID-19 on BAME (black, asian and minority ethic) players.

Watford captain Troy Deeney revealed on Monday that he is not returning to Watford training as he does not want to put his five-year-old son at risk and also has question marks over the potential impact on BAME players in the top flight.

The Office of National Statistics' data has suggested that black men and women are almost twice as likely to die from the novel coronavirus compared to non-whites.
