Yanagi Set for 2023 U.S. Men’s Amateur Championship

PULLMAN, Wash. (August 11, 2023) – Washington State men's golf senior Pono Yanagi is set to compete at the 123rd U.S. Amateur Championship beginning Monday, Aug. 14, at Cherry Hills Country Club in Colorado.

Yanagi qualified for next week's U.S. Amateur Championship after medaling in the U.S. Amateur Qualifier played at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in July. The Hilo, Hawaii native fired back-to-back rounds of 65 to be one of two players to earn a spot in the championship. Yanagi has produced an incredible year, becoming the first Cougar men's golfer to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 2010 after placing third at the 2023 Pac-12 Conference Championships, the best finish by a Coug at the conference championships in the program history.
