WSU’s Hercules Mata’afa, Erik Powell pick up Pac-12 Player of the week honors

Washington State defensive tackle Hercules Mata’afa and kicker Erik Powell have been named Pac-12 players of the week.

Mata’afa earned his first career defensive player of the week honor after leading WSU to a 33-25 win over Utah on Saturday. Mata’afa had eight total tackles, including a career-high five tackles-for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in the win. Mata’afa, a junior, leads the Pac-12 with 21.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks this season.

Powell earned his third special teams player of the week award of the season after accounting for 15 points in WSU’s win.
