WSU defeats Washington in first of two, 78-70

The Washington State Cougars snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Washington Huskies in the first of two matches this weekend, 78-70, on Wednesday in Pullman.

It’s the Cougs’ fourth win in five tries against the Huskies since Kyle Smith took the helm in 2018, and it elevates WSU into a tie for 6th in the conference with UW.

“It was a nice win for our program, obviously anytime you play your rival,” Smith said after the game. “Really competitive, good college basketball game. We knew they would be all we could handle and we hadn’t had (a win) in five games, so it was nice to pull that one out.
