For more than a month, Washington State has been in talks with football coach Mike Leach about a contract extension and raise. As of Monday afternoon, it appears that both sides are close to finalizing an agreement.
Citing WSU President Kirk Schulz, Derek Deis of KXLY tweeted Monday afternoon that the WSU football program would announce an extension for Leach sometime Monday.
This news comes two days before Dec. 20, the beginning of the early signing period, when the bulk of WSU’s 2018 recruiting class is expected to sign letters-of-intent to play football at WSU.
However, in a text message to The Seattle Times Monday, WSU spokesperson Phil Weiler said that Leach had not yet signed a new contract.
