PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State pitcher Sam Triece was selected in the tenth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday.
Triece, a senior righthander from Edmonds, Wash., was taken as the No. 298 overall pick. The 6-2, 215 pound Triece went 5-0 and posted a 2.66 ERA in his team-leading 31 appearances including three starts this season. He recorded 59 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .222 batting average in 50 2/3 innings of work. Over his final 15 appearances dating back to April 7, Triece went 5-0 with a 0.
