Redskins signing QB Mark Sanchez to back up Colt McCoy

The Redskins lost starting QB Alex Smith for the season yesterday after he broke the tibia and fibula in his right leg. He had surgery, and the injury is not considered career-ending. Colt McCoy stepped in yesterday, and was almost able to lead the Redskins to a comeback win over the Houston Texans. Washington only carried two QBs this year, and the emergency QB would have been either Trey Quinn or Jordan Reed.

The search for a backup QB started immediately, and the Redskins contacted 5 QBs to work out today.
